EP Review: Aetheza
Fuck me sideways; Aetheza's debut EP is fierce and exciting. Filled with catchy guitar hooks and epic drum chops, you definitely want to hear this ball of creativity. All three songs are dynamite and bold, carried by the lead vocalist's Hayley Williams/Kelly Clarkson-esque vocals. Can't stop banging my head while listening to it. 'Think you can't take me on/well you're wrong, come and try,' she sings in 'Hurricane.'
'Hurricane' and 'Thunderstorm' are aptly named, as both natural disasters are powerful and destructive, like the songs. 'I'm rising up like a thunderstorm.' Right you are, along with the guitar, which follows the vocal melody. I'm getting a strong Living Colour semblance, with the attitude and heavy riffs. 'Thunderstorm' ends on a more vulnerable lighter tone than the other two, which creates a nice contrast.
'Running Away' probably has the best guitar intro, running up and down the scale in real Hendrix fashion. Haha, 'running' in a song called 'running' - sorry, that was lame. 'You think I'm weak but you won't see me/running away/I'm not backing down.' I hear you girl. I wouldn't want to mess with the singer on account of her ferocious delivery.
The bass is punchy and tightly holds the music together. All of the songs have the perfect mix of solid bass and drum grooves with fiery melodies and harmonies dancing on top. All in all, a fantastic and fun EP.
